This page is devoted  to reviewing those 45's that are lesser known on the scene--both to the dancers and many collectors but deserve a little bit of exposure. First up with the reviews is Steve with some pieces from his collection that are affordable to those mere mortals for whom

re-mortgaging the house is not an option! Ideals - You lost and I won / You hurt me (Satellite)

Both sides arranged and produced by Monk Higgins. This is 1967 I believe, but sounds slightly earlier, which is probably why it failed commercially. The topside is a smooth dancer with great lyrics, "First mistake you saw me coming, second mistake you looked my way, third mistake you let me hold you…last mistake you let me kiss you - give up it's all over now…you've lost and I've won!" The flip is a lovely mid-tempo group dancer. At its current price this is an essential purchase.

Expect to pay £15 - £20

Tommy Hunt - Hold on / I don't want to lose you

Both sides are fantastic ballads / beat ballads. It is very difficult to choose between the two sides, but I think I'll go for "I don't want to lose you" The Van McCoy magic strikes again and Tommy as usual, gives us his rich and soulful best and in the process produces another piece of Atlantic wonderment.

Prices vary for this but expect to pay £25 -30

Barbara Lewis - Thankful for what I got

These lyrics by Barbara Lewis will have you singing along, even if you can't sing. "I've got myself a real live fella, she's got herself a real live fella"

Barbara's voice never fails to hit the spot and this clever weaving and bouncy production by Bob Bateman and Lou Courtney is yet another slab of class from Atlantic. How all her records after 1965 were non-hits I just do not know.

Will set you back about £15.
